India spans a large geographic area from east to west โ roughly 29 degrees of longitude. Sunrise and sunset times vary significantly across cities. Kolkata in the east has sunrise about 1 hour 30 minutes earlier than Mumbai in the west. Since Sehri ends at dawn (Fajr) and Iftar starts at sunset (Maghrib), the times differ considerably city by city. All timings on this site are in IST (UTC+5:30).
We use the Hanafi calculation method, which is the standard followed by the majority of Sunni Muslims in India. Sehri time ends approximately 10 minutes before the Fajr Adhan, and Iftar begins at the exact time of sunset (Maghrib). Please verify with your local mosque for final confirmation, as a 1-2 minute safety margin is always recommended.
